Heart Helping Tips

Do heart problems run in your family? Perhaps you are trying to lower your cholesterol? Or maybe you just want to eat healthier? No matter what your goals are, make Penn Maid Cottage Cheese the cheese you choose. By taking this step you will be taking action to help your heart!

One of the keys to heart healthy eating is limiting saturated fat intake because saturated fat can increase ‘bad’ cholesterol levels (a.k.a. low density lipoproteins) and most cheeses have a significant amount of saturated fat. For example: by using cottage cheese instead of a ‘regular’ cheese (e.g. cheddar) you will save about 8 grams of fat per ounce of cheese used!

The good news is that by choosing Penn Maid Cottage Cheese in place of other cheeses you will help your heart by consuming less saturated fat. Here are some quick and easy ways to make Penn Maid Cottage Cheese part of your routine:

  • Instead of cheddar cheese on a salad… top your salad with Penn Maid Lowfat Cottage Cheese and drizzle it with Italian dressing for a creamy and tangy twist.
  • For a light lunch…cover Penn Maid Lowfat Cottage Cheese with a fruit like canned mixed fruit or mandarin oranges. Tip: When choosing canned fruit for your healthiest options choose fruit canned in its own juice or in light syrup.
  • For a creamy snack… In a blender or mini-food processor combine: 1 cup of Penn Maid Lowfat Cottage Cheese, 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla, 3 teaspoons of sugar (or sugar substitute), and ¼ teaspoon vanilla. Simply blend until smooth and enjoy!
  • For a protein packed dinner… try a recipe that uses cottage cheese! Here is a new recipe to check out:
